Welcome! The purpose of this site it to get information out about our events and to promote discussion about the virtues of dancing to live music. For those of you who are musicians, it is the same, except you get to use "the remote control". What you play influences how the dancer moves. If a dancer is "paying attention" and really listening to the music, following the rhythms, it truly becomes a wordless communication between the two and the moves a dancer makes is the visual interpretation of the sound of the music.
Our workshop is taught by Souhail Kaspar and largely teaches dancers how to move to specific rhythms. For the past 2 years, and next year, Angelika joins us, teaching techinque and leading the dancers through demonstrations, with Souhail on the proper movements and rhythms. Additionaly, John Bilizekjian will be available to teach OUD and Makam. This year was amazing and we hope to add and built to our event.
Thanks again for dropping by. Check back periodically for updates.

Re: Welcome/Puprose of this TRIBE
Wed, February 9, 2005 - 12:33 PMI've played live as a "fiddler" for over 3 decades, primarily for dancers of multitudinous genres and styles, particularily in structures and traditions in which once one aquires the framework and dynamics of the structure, interpretation is indivualized within the flow of the moment, the space, surrounding energies and stream of the music...my own practice (spiritual as well as craft) is founded on the nurturing of growth in this sense...

Mon, February 28, 2005 - 7:48 PMRidgecrest was so much fun. Finally a good show. After BDUC, we were getting worried. The after party was awesome. Ras Danny was great. They played, then we played (Charlie,Rico and me), then we did a fusion set. Charlie played Reggae on doumbek and Congas, and Rico played Reggae on Oud and guitar. I danced with everyone else while the guys played the fusion set. Felt gooood! -
