We will not be doing the event in 2006. We may or may not continue in 2007. If we do, we will move in a new direction, one more in line with the spirit of improvisation, and making the dance truly your own.

Welcome! The purpose of this site it to get information out about our events and to promote discussion about the virtues of dancing to live music. For those of you who are musicians, it is the same, except you get to use "the remote control". What you play influences how the dancer moves. If a dancer is "paying attention" and really listening to the music, following the rhythms, it truly becomes a wordless communication between the two and the moves a dancer makes is the visual interpretation of the sound of the music.

Our workshop is taught by Souhail Kaspar and largely teaches dancers how to move to specific rhythms. For the past 2 years, and next year, Angelika joins us, teaching techinque and leading the dancers through demonstrations, with Souhail on the proper movements and rhythms. Additionaly, John Bilizekjian will be available to teach OUD and Makam. This year was amazing and we hope to add and built to our event.

Thanks again for dropping by. Check back periodically for updates.

Beladi d Baja- more info. For complete text and pricing, go to www.basilonent.com. Click the Beladi d Baja link to view the flyer. It isnt quite a retreat, in the sense that you get to laze around...(unless you come a day early) It is a party and We work you! This workshop was designed for both the dancer and drummer to learn to work together. Souhail Kaspar will teach drum to both drummers and dancers. Angelika will be teaching technique, and with Souhail, will demonstrate and teach how body movement goes with the sounds and rhythms of the drum. John Bilezikjian will also be there to teach oud. Saturday night we put on a show for the locals in San Felipe. We sure have given them an education in the art form and expanded their cultural horizons! John and Souhail will play for 6 dancers, plus Angelika closing the show. The dancers will be chosen by lottery from the participants who wish to perform.

The cost is $300.00. If you want to stay an extra night, the cost would be an additional $60.00 for the room. If you have a companion who wants to come and hang out, without taking classes and shares your room, that's cool too. The cost for companion is $120.00 for the 3 days. If your fees are paid by August 15, you can deduct $25.00 off the top. $25.00 discount does not apply to companion rate. Included in your fees is a breakfast each morning of coffee, tea, juices, yogurt, fruit and local bakery Mexican pastries, outside under the palapa. Admission to the Saturday show is included. We will have an informal party Sunday night at the hotel with munchies. BYOB. Unlike the U.S., there is no curfew at the hotel and we did party till the wee hours last year. It was awesome, drummers and dancers doing their thing into the night, and for a while, John and Souhail played with us. Magic.

For more info on San Felipe, go to www.SanFelipe.com.mx . Please email me at basilondrums@yahoo.com with further questions. Oh yea, we also can take credit cards

Unfortunatly some dancers, and their teachers have no idea of how to dance to live since it is so easy to just pop in a cd and choreograph the song to the nth degree. It never varies. It is always the same. To some, that is an advantage, to me that is BORING. Taped music does not have the "energy" or magic that live does. Live keeps you awake and from becoming a ROBO-Dancer. Problem is, so many american dancers today dont know the difference. Once you have experienced it, with good musicians, then you know the difference.

How do you feel about that?
